Reduce Inflammation

Acute Inflammation

Inflammation is our body’s defence response to any injury and foreign invaders, where the immune system works to heal the body. In an acute situation, the inflammation is generally temporary and quite efficient to respond to and resolve what has invaded the body.

The symptoms of inflammation vary depending on whether the reaction is acute or chronic. While some of it is visible or located on the skin but sometimes inflammation can occur deeper in the body and can be harder to recognise.

Acute symptoms of inflammation include:

  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Immobility
  • Swelling
  • Heat

Examples of acute inflammation diseases, conditions and situations include:

  • Acute bronchitis
  • Infected ingrown toenail
  • Sore throat from a cold or flu
  • Scratch or cut on the skin
  • High-intensity exercise
  • Acute appendicitis
  • Dermatitis
  • Tonsillitis
  • Infective meningitis
  • Sinusitis
  • Physical trauma

Chronic Inflammation

When the body is constantly triggering the immune response to resolve chronic inflammation, it can sometimes cause more harm than good. Chronic conditions like arthritis; the immune system triggers an inflammatory response where there are no foreign invaders. In a situation like this known as autoimmunity, the body’s normally protective immune system causes damage to its own tissues.

Symptoms of chronic inflammation can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Mouth sores
  • Chest pain
  • Abdominal or joint pain
  • Fever
  • Rash

Examples of chronic inflammation diseases, conditions and situations include:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic peptic ulcer
  • Tuberculosis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Periodontitis
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Sinusitis
  • Active hepatitis
  • Skin conditions such as psoriasis and acne

Chronic inflammation can eventually cause diseases like some cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, periodontitis and hay fever. In other words, chronic inflammation is both a cause of and symptom of serious and distressing conditions.

Red light therapy is a well-established alternative treatment for both acute and chronic inflammation, and has been approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA, United States) and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA, Australia) for medical use with minimal side-effects.

Studies have shown that red and near infrared (NIR) light can have anti-inflammatory effects on par with non-invasive anti-inflammatory drugs, which are the usual prescribed treatment for pain and inflammation.

Red light therapy assists in:

  • Make cells healthier, more resilient and tolerant to stress
  • Up regulate the genes involved in energy production and the internal cellular antioxidant defence system
  • Down regulate the genes involved in chronic inflammation and oxidative stress

Red Light Therapy devices have no adverse side effects, while being safe, natural, chemical-free, convenient, easy and comfortable to use.

The CelLED Devices are ideal to assist with reducing acute inflammation as well as chronic inflammation. They can be used in conjunction with existing treatment protocols, and is best incorporated under medical supervision.
